On behalf of the people of Namhae, it is my greatest pleasure to host the ˇ°Third Active Aging Conference in Asia Pacificˇ± here in Namhae, Treasure Island. Korea is about to embark upon the aging society, therefore it prepares to establish an institution to address the concern, as well as to adjust to the social transition.
Namhae holds 28.3% of the old population and it is likely to increase as Korea has already entered the aging society. Given this point, I sincerely welcome all participants to the 2007 Namhae Active Aging Conference in Asia Pacific.
Namhae is the best longevity region with diligent people and exotic landscapes. The old people in Namhae are proud of their longevity and health so much that, traditionally, it believed that there is a star lighting upon the beautiful island.
Also, there are various campaigns for the elderly to keep their healthy life in Namhae-gun, such as Health Education & Health Maintaining Campaign, Illiterate Education Campaign and No-Smoking Region Campaign. In addition, Namhae became a Healthy City in Korea in 2005.
It is my hope that the 2007 Namhae Active Aging Conference in Asia Pacific will lead to more concrete and active lifestyle of the elderly in multi-directional approach.
